Zelensky addressed a video link in the lower house of the Dutch parliament on Thursday. This is the first time that the head of state of another country has addressed the House of Representatives in the Netherlands.
“Russia needs to impose tough sanctions,” Zelensky said in a video link. As if they did not get a chance to drag this war to other European countries.
“Stop all trade with Russia. Get ready to stop buying fuel from Russia. You don’t have to pay billions of dollars for the war. ”
Russia supplies about 20 percent of the Netherlands’ natural gas. In the last few years, Russia has become an important trading partner of the country.
Russia is a major supplier of energy to European countries. European countries are now looking for alternative sources of energy due to sanctions imposed on Russia’s energy sector in the wake of the Ukraine war.
But the chances of finding an alternative source immediately are slim. The supply of fuel in the world market is also limited.
The Netherlands has so far sent a number of weapons and military equipment to Ukraine, including anti-tank rockets and Patriot air defense systems. The country is also helping to increase the number of troops in the eastern part of the NATO alliance.
Referring to the war crimes tribunal in the Netherlands, Zelensky also demanded justice.
“Those who ordered the bombings and shelling in Ukraine must be brought to justice,” he said. The people of The Hague (the city where the war crimes tribunal is located) know that.
