Lam will not fight for the top position in Hong Kong

Hong Kong’s current chief executive Carrie Lam has announced that she will not run for a second term. He has had to deal with pro-democracy protests for most of the current term. Analysts say his tenure has undermined the democratic rights of ordinary Hong Kong people.
In an announcement on Monday, Lam said he would retire from politics to give his family time. “My priority now is family,” he told a news conference. My family members also think it’s time for me to return home.
Carrie Lam’s term as chief executive expires next June. Massive pro-democracy protests have led Hong Kong to greater Chinese control. Hong Kong residents are subject to a series of restrictions. “I will complete my five-year term as chief executive of Hong Kong on June 30,” said Lam. Officially, my 42 year career will end on this day. I do not want to run for a second term.

Hong Kong’s first female chief executive, Carrie Lam, told reporters that Chinese leaders respected her decision. Lam added that he had informed China of his intention a year ago. Hong Kong’s chief secretary John Lee is expected to replace him.
