Erica Rose Sanders is thrilled to support Travis Meadors and his very important and relevant “Sober Stories Project”. During the pandemic there has been a surge in mental health problems among them addiction. The purpose of The Sober Stories Project is to allow the public to understand what an addict goes through while in addiction and getting sober. It also allows others to understand what it’s like to live in the world sober. The stories tell all the things that addicts must overcome in Recovery to achieve long-term sobriety. Such as shame, guilt, mental health, trauma, and the realities of what it is to be human.
Although Erica Rose Sanders has no personal experience with addiction, she is aware of the consequences and impact the disease of addiction has on our society and our communities. In recent years the mental health of our society has become a challenging situation. Erica Rose Sanders and Travis Meadors strongly believe that “A story can save life”.
The Summer event for The Sober Stories Project hosted by Erica Rose Sanders will highlight the stories told and raise money to keep this project going. Ideally The Sober Stories Project will be an ongoing cause-based campaign that chronicles a variety of individuals who are in recovery for alcohol and drug abuse. With a focus on what they have gained going through the recovery process.
To Travis, the story we tell about addiction in media generally goes something like, “Something bad happened to us in childhood. In dealing with the feelings that came from those events we turned to drugs, alcohol, and behaviors. From there, our lives got worse. We hit rock bottom. We got sober. The end.”
This project interviews recovering addicts, the subjects ranging from a tattoo-covered biker to an environmental lawyer because the disease knows no bounds. Sober Stories is on a mission to show the many faces of sober living in the hopes that people who are considering sobriety might be able to see themselves in these narratives. Erica Rose Sanders is passionate about saving lives of those affected by addiction and mental health issues.
Travis Meadors’ goal is to feature people from a variety of lifestyles to provide more opportunities to connect with our society and create content that allows those who are suffering to see themselves in other people’s stories. Whether that is addiction, mental health, or just life in general.
