A bill proposing a more specific interpretation of the concept of “compatriot” was submitted to the State Duma by the first deputy chairman of the committee on CIS affairs, Eurasian integration and relations with compatriots Konstantin Zatulin . Zatulin proposes to recognize only Russian-speaking applicants for this status as compatriots. According to the deputy, the existing legislation allows to interpret this concept “unjustifiably broadly”.
