Ukraine demands probe into Russian war crimes in Bucharest

Ukraine views the discovery of a mass grave in the town of Bucha, near the Ukrainian capital Kiev, as a “war crime” by Russian forces. The country has called for an international inquiry into allegations of war crimes against Russian forces. Russia has denied the allegations in a statement issued Friday stating “Similar, baseless allegations concerning Russia’s intelligence have been made more than once.
After the Russian troops withdrew from Bucha, the city’s mayor, Anatoly Fedoruk, said bodies were lying on the city streets. Even 260 people have been buried in mass graves. Many of them were shot dead by Russian troops at close range.
Ukraine’s foreign ministry on Monday called on the International Criminal Court (ICC) to investigate Russia’s “war crimes” in Bucharest and gather evidence. The Foreign Ministries of the United Kingdom and France have stated that the two countries will support and assist the International Criminal Court if it initiates an investigation.
