Many have recognized the food by name. The bread is filled with sausage, called hot dog.
It contains a lot of mayonnaise and cheese. Extremely tasty food hot dog in a mix of everything.
Everyone who has eaten or heard of a hot dog has at least once thought about the name of this dish.
Why is it called a hot dog? Does it contain dog meat?
Beef, chicken or pork are used to make hot dog sausages. If you bite into a hot dog but look for it, you won’t find dog meat.
This hot dog is German food. It enters America from Europe with refugees. At one time, hot dogs became popular street food in America.
At that time this food was popular among the factory workers and day laborers. These were sold in small wheelbarrows with wheels along the road. The food spread throughout America in the middle of the twentieth century. The way hot dogs are prepared in different parts of America has also changed a bit to suit the tastes of the people in that area.
In the twentieth century, dog meat was popular in Germany. In that sense, many would think that this dish was made from German sausage dog meat.
So there was another name for sausage ‘Doug’. The name sausage has been popular in Germany since the 1800’s. But even then, sausage-filled bread was not called a hot dog. It was called Dutchshade Sausage.
An American newspaper cartoonist drew a cartoon referring to Dutch Dutch sausage as a ‘hot dog’. That cartoon became so popular that this sausage-filled bread became known as Hot Dog.
In fact, a German merchant was selling Dutch-made sausage by pushing outside New York’s Polo Grounds. He was making and selling hot in that wheelbarrow. He was shouting and urging the audience to eat Dutch shades.
Newspaper cartoonist Thomas Alosias Dargan was also watching from a distance. Baseball was being played at the Polo Ground in New York. He tried to portray the situation of that day in a cartoon in the newspaper.
But he did not understand the name of the seller. He realized it was actually sausage and was being served hot.
At one time in Germany, since sausage was another name for ‘dog’ and it was served hot, he referred to this dish in cartoons as ‘hot dog’. Since then it has become known as ‘Hot Dog’.
